The King of Herring’s “Vikingsild” won an award recently for best label in FINAT’s yearly European label competition. The label is produced by Skanem Scandinavia, at the Hobro site in Denmark. The category, in which this label won, was Digital Imaging.
Branding and Communication Manager at HQ, Susanne Wærholm also met the King (Arvid Otto Sildenskiold Mørch), at one of the largest shopping malls in Stavanger. Arvid and his team were selling their products from a temporary stand in the middle of the mall. The King of Herring, popularly called “Sildakongen” in Norway, talked about the importance of having a selling label: ‘What makes you want to buy a product on shelf? You use your eyesight! Your eyesight determines which brand you want to buy, and the label is therefore crucial in making sure you catch the consumer’s attention!’ The King of Herring further explains that because of the importance of shelf appeal, the design, quality and print of the label is always very important, all in order to trigger the consumer’s willingness to choose your product.
About the ”Vikingsild” label
The FINAT jury said the following about the label: ‘An atmospheric label showing the Vikings braving a tempestuous ocean. A very busy label with plenty of information about the product. Printed digitally on a metallised paper gives the label a quality lift without the expense of gold foiling.
